This is my sixth year teaching English Language Development at Northglenn Middle School. I earned a BS in Art Education from Florida State University, and after teaching Art in a Pompano Beach high school for 12 years, I took a sabbatical and taught English in a Japanese high school in Nagasaki for three years. Ever since living and teaching in Japan, I have been interested in teaching English as a second or foreign language, and so I went back to school and completed my Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I find languages and foreign cultures fascinating. Having lived in Japan and Spain, I know what it’s like to live somewhere and be “left out” due to language and cultural barriers; I’m endeavoring to help middle school and adult learners feel not just included, but also productive, effective, and valued.
When I’m not planning or teaching lessons, I’m usually sharing my kidney donation story (yes! I gave one of mine to my brother!), kickboxing, drawing, running, cycling, going on a trip, visiting a museum, or you may just find me with a cup of tea and reading a book.
